Just The Start!

Hey, You're here!

Good, That's the first step toward making a contribution to a Worldwide effort to raise awareness about Climate Change.

For all of you who have not heard of 350.org Check out their site. What you will find is a multinational core of inspired environmentalists and activists looking to make a bold statement about the current climate crisis. The Goal is to inspire individual groups across the globe to organize events to be seen by the media, lawmakers, and surprised citizens all coordinated on a specific day later this year. I'm interested in getting together a bike mob of more than 350 people (hopefully quite a few more) and taking over the streets of San Diego. Not only will this show people a unified force of concerned citizens respectfully making our point, but also reinforces need to use alternatives to automobiles and fossil fuels for transportation. Were going to make a short documentary and have it posted to the 350.org site and many others to hopefully give people a laugh and show them what they can do in their own communities.

Here is the 350.org mission from their site:

350.org is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis--the solutions that justice demand.

Our mission is to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis--to create a new sense of urgency and of possibility for our planet.

Our focus is on the number 350--as in parts per million, the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. But 350 is more than a number--it's a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.

To tackle climate change we need to move quickly, and we need to act in unison--and 2009 will be an absolutely crucial year. This December, world leaders will meet in Copenhagen, Denmark to craft a new global treaty on cutting emissions. The problem is, the treaty currently on the table doesn't meet the severity of the climate crisis--it doesn't pass the 350 test.

In order to unite the public, media, and our political leaders behind the 350 goal, we're harnessing the power of the internet to coordinate a planetary day of action on October 24, 2009. We hope to have actions at hundreds of iconic places around the world - from the Taj Mahal to the Great Barrier Reef to your community - and clear message to world leaders: the solutions to climate change must be equitable, they must be grounded in science, and they must meet the scale of the crisis.

If an international grassroots movement holds our leaders accountable to the latest climate science, we can start the global transformation we so desperately need.

That said, You're probably still here because you have an interest in participating on October 24th, the day of action, and would like to pedal your way toward cleaner air.

My original plan was to have 350+ bikes mob together and ride out into the San Diego area. Seems there is already a devout group of riders who do this on a regular basis and regularly have way more than 350 riders :) This makes me very optimistic and If you are here from one of those groups thank you for taking a look and helping to do this for yet another good cause ...and I'll see you at the next Critical Mass.

So This being my first post, please feel free to contact me with any feedback and as time goes along I hope this event can become a success. Any photographers or videographers willing to lend their expertise will be greatly appreciated as well. Lets make this 350 day of action come alive!
